One of the most significant items in Ohio history has been the emphasis on public education. This dates back to the Ordinance of 1787 which ws in effect the constitution for the Northwest Territory of which Ohio was a part, and provided that schools and means of education shall forever be encouraged. Following out the spirtit of this Ordinance, the people of Ohio have never failed to support their schools generously either locallay or state as a whole. In the early days of public schools the people of Ohio supported the school by their labor, by furnishing free material, and by assessing themselves so much per family to provide buildings and services needed to educate their children. Western Brown Local Schools are proud to continue this service to excellence in education for the communities of Mt. Orab, Hamersville, and Sterling, Green, Pike, Clark, and Scott townships. With that being said, welcome to the Western Brown Local Schools., we are located in rural southwestern Ohio approximately 25 miles east of Cincinnat, in Brown County.
Our job here at Western Brown Local Schools is to provide the best possible education opportunities for our students and a safe caring environment. These opportunities must occur within the parameters and constrictions of state, federal, and local budgets; state, federal, and local politics; community dynamics; current trends; and other needs or wants of our stakeholders. At times, those things that may be viewed as positive by one group may be perceived as negative by others. It is important that all of the decisions which go into running a school district be thoroughly explored, weighed, and acted upon.
The Western Brown Local Schools is one of, if not the largest employer of Brown County. The district employs over 300 employees to help serve the 3,300 students that enter our district doors between our campuses in Mt. Orab and Hamersville. With such a large and multifaceted organization you can start to understand why there is a need for policies, procedures, and oversight by a locally elected governing body known as the Board of Education. Although, the inter-workings of a school are much more involved than noted above. I hope that I have helped to shed some light on what we do here. As we begin this school year, I encourage you to explore the educational opportunities we provide at Western Brown. Learn with Passion, Act with Courage, and Change the World!
Have a great year and Go Broncos!
