It was a total team effort by the Western Brown Bronco Battalion’s Air Rifle Team at the Camp Perry Regional Championship as part of the All-Army JROTC Service Championship this past weekend. The Broncos’ air rifle team captured 1st place in the sporter class team championship at Camp Perry and finished 13th in the country across all three Regional Sites (Camp Perry, Ohio, Anniston, Alabama and Chandler, Arizona). There were a total 50 teams out of 197 teams from across the country that qualified for this championship.
After day 1, the WB rifle team had only a narrow 8 point lead over 2nd place with 3rd place was less than 20 points behind. The Broncos shot a school record high 2101 on day 1 (highest daily team score in the Broncos’ four appearances at this service championship - 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020).
Rising to the challenge of an extremely competitive field of shooters, all Bronco team members played a vital role in the team’s performance. On Day 2, the team again shot another team high score (2108) to finish in 1st place:

12th: Jackson County HS (3938) - Kentucky
13th: Smithfield HS (3937) - Virginia
14th: Seneca Valley HS (3819) - Pennsylvania
15th: Albuquerque HS (3702) - New Mexico
16th: Auburn HS (3686) – Illinois
Additionally, Cadet Alex Daugherty’s (junior) 2 day total score qualified him for the 8 shooter final. Going into the final he was in 3rd place just 3 points behind 2nd place and 12 points behind 1st. Cadet Daugherty shot a superior final (92.1) securing 2nd place for the individual silver medal (Just missing 1st by 5.1 points).
