Bronco Rifle Team Information

26 February 2022 Grant County Rifle Match

Congratulations to the Western Brown Air Rifle Team for placing 1st and 3rd at the Grant County HS rifle match on 26 Feb 22.  8 Members of the rifle team traveled to Grant County High School in Kentucky and participated in the 3 school/6 team match.  Grant County's JROTC program served as the host of this 3 x 20 three position match.  A total of 26 shooters from 3 JROTC programs participated in the match.  The following are the results:

2021-22 All-Army JROTC Service Championship

    Having qualified during the JROTC Postal Championship back in December, the Western Brown HS Army JROTC Air Rifle Team traveled to Camp Perry, Ohio and Competed in the All-Army JROTC Service Championship 10-12 February 2022.  This 3 day match consisted of 1 practice day followed by 2 days of competition where each team member fired a 3 x 20 shot course both days.

    Making the trip were:

Cadet Skiler Marcum (Junior): 10th place                    
Cadet Travis Jones (Junior): 16th place
Cadet Nathanial Hoevel (Junior): 33rd place
Cadet Alyssa Stevens (Freshman): 60th place
Cadet Jessica Swart (Junior): 57th place

    Although not shooting their best, the Broncos were in 5th place in the Northeast Region shot at Camp Perry at the end of day 1.  The team did come back and improve their position the second day to finish 4th just 21 points out from earning a podium spot (3rd Place).  The Broncos ended up placing 21st overall in the country.

1st Place - Camp Perry

    It was a total team effort by the Western Brown Bronco Battalion’s Air Rifle Team at the Camp Perry Regional Championship as part of the All-Army JROTC Service Championship this past weekend. The Broncos’ air rifle team captured 1st place in the sporter class team championship at Camp Perry and finished 13th in the country across all three Regional Sites (Camp Perry, Ohio, Anniston, Alabama and Chandler, Arizona). There were a total 50 teams out of 197 teams from across the country that qualified for this championship.

After day 1, the WB rifle team had only a narrow 8 point lead over 2nd place with 3rd place was less than 20 points behind. The Broncos shot a school record high 2101 on day 1 (highest daily team score in the Broncos’ four appearances at this service championship - 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020).

Rising to the challenge of an extremely competitive field of shooters, all Bronco team members played a vital role in the team’s performance. On Day 2, the team again shot another team high score (2108) to finish in 1st place:

Additionally, Cadet Alex Daugherty’s (junior) 2 day total score qualified him for the 8 shooter final. Going into the final he was in 3rd place just 3 points behind 2nd place and 12 points behind 1st. Cadet Daugherty shot a superior final (92.1) securing 2nd place for the individual silver medal (Just missing 1st by 5.1 points).

Rifle Team Competed at Camp Perry

On Saturday 14 September 2019, 5 members of the Western Brown Army JROTC Air Rifle Team traveled to the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) 80 lane range at Camp Perry, Ohio to compete in their monthly match. Teams from Ohio, Maryland and Pennsylvania were in attendance. Although very early in the rifle season, this match was a good way to gage where a few of our experienced shooters stand going forward.

The match consisted of a 3 x 20 shot match in 3 positions...prone, standing and kneeling.

After shooting the qualifying match...4 of our shooters qualified for the top 8 shooter final. At the conclusion of the finals the following were the match results:

Cadet T. Swinford: bronze medalist, 3rd
Cadet A. Daugherty: 5th place
Cadet D. Moubray: 7th place
Cadet K. Johnson: 8th place
Cadet T. Arey: 10th place

Great start to the season.
